Well, we made it back! It was sad to leave everyone behind after such a long, busy, happy visit. But it also does feel good to be home again. We're settled back into our routine and looking forward to keeping busy during the last stage of this deployment.
I snapped this photo through the plane window with my phone somewhere just east of Las Vegas, I think. There's nothing like flying across the country on a clear day. I just look down and think, "I can't believe we have places that look like this!"

Our flights home marked the completion of Pippo's fifth cross-country trip, which makes him quite the little 18-month-old jet setter. A few things combined to make this trip go quite smoothly, the first of which was that our first flight (the one that was 5 1/2 hours long) wasn't full, so Pippo got his own seat. Such a blessing!
(You can tell it was worth it because I say this even though it meant I ended up carrying about 50 pounds of baby, baby-distraction-packed diaper bag, and carseat through the miles and miles of terminal in Las Vegas. I would be lying if I said I don't resent the size of that airport.)
The other big blessing was that Habou came back with us! Not only did she help us ease back into life in California, but she was great company and support on the way over there. If you've ever flown alone with a baby, you know how helpful that second set of hands is.

My little man decided that this week he was going to step up and start helping me with the trash. He insisted on giving me a hand as I pulled the barrels up the driveway.
He also has been helping the neighbors -- when he sees that their bins are still by the curb, he loudly yells "trash" until we've gotten to the next house (unless a truck passes. Truck trumps trash). If a lid is open, he stops and refuses to keep walking until I help him close it.

We are good citizens.

Here are some of the fun things we did do with Habou while she was here:
Went to the playground. Cooked and ate tasty food. Relaxed at home. Watched fireworks (at least until someone decided he Did Not Like Fireworks). Went antiquing. Played on the beach. Visited the San Diego Botanical Garden.
Here is what we did not do:
Take lots of pictures.
But I did get a few, including these sweet ones of Pippo reading a book with his great-grandmother. They are so cute together. (When he got scared of the fireworks, he practically leapt out of my arms into hers for protection. I'm pretty sure she's still beaming about that one.)
