Competence vs. Perfectionism

I've noticed that one (perhaps unintended on your part, dear readers) side-effect of infrequent posting on my part is an increase in emails I receive that have the theme "I'm looking through the archives and thanks, it's really helping me." [Followed by, as the author says in Backyard Sugarin', unwarranted compliments.]

Apart from being just really sweet and affirming, these emails have been reminding me to remind you of something, something I've downplayed in my actual posts lately, just because it gets embarrassing to say every time --

Yarn, books, tidying up...chatty...

Today I'm letting Ginny's Yarn Along be my inspiration for my post, because my mind has topic gridlock.

The best part of being sick is getting your meal on a tray.

I'm not going to post a lot of photos of everyone's comings and goings, because a lot of them were taken with Rosie's camera and she promises to do a post soon.

It was good to see (almost) everyone. By (almost) I don't mean that it wasn't good to see some of the people. I mean not everyone came. Had they come, it would have been good to see them!

My poor blog...

... I don't mean to ignore you!

It's been so gray -- I can't even get inspired by pictures! And there are so many distractions here right now! Having a baby in the house makes it hard to do anything! If he's sad, you have to help out! And if he's happy, well, who can blog when there's a happy baby around!

Lenten preparations.

Finally, Lent is nigh.

Some years you get used to Lent starting right after Christmas and then, one year, it seems never to come. Sneaky, sneaky Lent. I actually had a little panic last Tuesday when I thought that Ash Wednesday must be the next day. Phew, no, I could put off dealing with the spiritual crud for one more week.

Naptime DIY: Greeting Card Mobile

My sweet little baby is not yet very good at sleeping apart from me, though he does a great job at night next to me in bed, and during the day generally wrapped up in the moby (which has been a lifesaver for me!).

I figure he spent the first nine months of his life cuddled up inside me, so really, being cuddled up against me on the outside is a big step towards independence.

He can even sleep through a trip to the beach, as long as he's got a good cuddle going!

Make knitting needles! A tutorial.

Here's a little glimpse of a bigger project that I will tell you about in a bit. It involves making knitting needles, because yes, I'm too cheap to buy a bunch of needles at the store. For the same price as one pair of bamboo #7 needles, I made 8+ pair (I just haven't finished them all).

Well, I do think that craft materials are overpriced. Even $3 for a pair of metal knitting needles? I find that hard to believe. When I want a pair for myself, I bring a coupon. But if I need 8 pairs, a coupon won't help.

Can't talk now, baby's here!

Why would anyone be leaving sunny Southern California for icy New England?

Whatever! It's like that there all the time. Come now!

You need some breakfast after the red-eye...
