"May you see your children's children!"

Philip Edward Turner

Rosie and the Lt. had the baby! He was born in the wee hours this morning.

More than thirty-one years ago the priest gave us this blessing, from today's Psalm (128):
"May you live to see your children's children."

And this is the day that blessing begins to come true!

O come to us, Abide with us!

I got the wreath made that I had in my mind.

 Merry Christmas! If you really want to know all the gory details of our recent past, go visit my yearbook post on our other blog, Happy Despite Them.

The second longest fourth week of Advent, and yet I'm still not really ready!

Joining my little peeks into the Yarning Along with Ginny!

Last Friday a certain someone went to the Christmas dance at the little school up the road from us.

After years and years of girls getting ready for dances, we have had a break, and now it's like we're in a new phase, starting over again. We dug out the curlers and the hairspray and the swirly skirt and the inserts to make dance shoes stay on and it was pretty fun. (The boys got ready too, but it wasn't at all exhausting, somehow, if you know what I mean.)

I just put that picture of the Pope up on the opposite wall, and I didn't intend to do more here than get her reflection...but if he wants to watch over her as well, that's fine with me!

Vespers, or building the culture of love

I wanted to tell you a bit about the Vespers service we held at our church for the third Sunday of Advent and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

I'm just under the wire here. I realize we are hard on the heels of the fourth Sunday of Advent!

Sorry, it takes me a while to process things sometimes!

We've had two Vespers services at our Church, the first two in a long time.

Yarning Along {Third week of Advent}

Onwards through the third week of Advent! We survived the second week without a flat tire on the Suburban. It's one of those traditions you'd just as soon ditch.

Pretty over the kitchen sink ~~ Linky party!

Today is the day you get to show us all how you made things clean and pretty above your kitchen sink. Why do I go on and on about this?

Horizontal surface management in the kitchen.

{Read all the way down for the real secret to keeping counters reasonably cleaned off, as well as a reminder about the linky party tomorrow!}

Flow in the kitchen.

Work goes so much better if you think in terms of flow. That goes double in the kitchen.

Collective Memory Department: Sideboard and 36 weeks

I've had multiple requests from my female relatives on the East Coast for pictures of my sideboard and my belly.

So without further ado:

Is it a bad sign when your belly is big enough to block your view of the furniture? Or maybe just a sign that it's just about time to have that baby!

Dr. Pepper Birthday Dinner

At some point this summer, I came across a deal for a two-year subscription to Saveur Magazine for something ridiculous like $5. I'd never seen an issue before, but was still mourning Gourmet (I'd just decided I would ask for a subscription for my birthday when they announced its demise. Poor me!) and figured it was a $5 risk I was willing to take!

I can't say it's completely won me over yet, but I'm giving it a chance.

The Reasonably Clean Kitchen starts with rules for the kids.

I've thought a lot about where exactly to start with this mighty topic, and I've decided that before we get into organization, work flow, and actual cleaning, we have to have a little talk about a habit your children must learn.
