I'm speaking this Sunday to both mothers and fathers in the little Atrium we have made at Our Lady of the Rosary. In typical fashion we have fallen down on the job of letting anyone know about this... I'll probably be speaking to the other teacher!
If you are local, please come! I would love to meet you.
If you don't know what Atrium is, learn more about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd here.

Some people might get the idea that you need a special room with lots of materials to open children's minds and hearts to the wonder of God's gifts to us. They might also think that I'm some sort of expert teacher with all the answers.
But the truth is, we have everything we need at home and in the Church to do this important work, and any teaching ability I have comes from my experience as a mother as well as my observation of what others do in their class. (I'm not even a certified CGS teacher -- I'm place-holding for someone really qualified to come along and take my place so I can stay home and spray paint stuff.)
In my view, the Atrium just shows us what we've lost in this hectic world of ours -- it doesn't replace the unique ability of the family to transmit the faith to children.
Below is the flyer I made for the talk. If for some crazy reason you want to print one out, you can find it here.
The Joy of the Church in the Home: What the Atrium can teach us about living the faith in the family this Advent.
Given by Leila M. Lawler
Our Lady of the Rosary, Clinton, Massachusetts, 2nd floor
Sunday, November 15, 3-4 pm.
Mothers and Fathers:
· Are you looking for a more peaceful Christmas celebration this year?
· Are you interested in preparing for Christmas differently this year?
· Are there Advent traditions that you would like your children to know?
· Do you wonder how to keep the faith alive in your children?
The Atrium is where we teach the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. It’s located on the second floor of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Come participate in a presentation just like one given to the children and hear a talk on how to live your faith at home with your family.
Mrs. Lawler is a convert to the Catholic faith. She has written and spoken widely on living the Liturgical Year with the family.

Wish I lived closer. Perhaps those of us who live a good distance away will be able to view you on youtube later. ;)
God bless you as you share.
I also wish I lived closer. Sounds like something I would love to hear more about.
Good luck and God Bless,
Taryn in PA
Oooh! I want to come!!! Let's see, a plane ticket, a hotel room.... :)
Let us know how it goes!
Hello!
Is there any way your talk could be posted on you tube, or at least the transcript posted on your blog? It sounds like exactly what I need to hear right now, but I live in Oregon. Which won't really work, as far as getting to your church.
Thanks!
Wish I could come and pick your brain. I've been interested in CGS but I don't know how to get started and am intimidated by all the materials CGS seems to require. I'd love to find out how to make do with what I have. We don't have an atrium very close to us or I'd be there.
Wow, what a wonderful thing to share. Like the others I wish I lived closer. I keep poking through your archives looking for ideas and suggestions on living the liturgical year more fully at home. I'm an adult convert and my husband is a cradle Catholic, but his family has a more secular view of Catholicism. Is that the way to express it? No pictures of saints, no statues of the Blessed Mother, no sense, except at Easter and Christmas, of the rhythms of the liturgical year.
I've decided to start putting out feelers at my parish to see if there are other moms wanting to dig deeper into the Catholic faith. It's so hard when so many of us don't have access, except through the Internet, to visible living role models who can answer questions and share their own questions.
Please tape and you tube? I'd come and I'm not Catholic.
Ooooh! Too bad I live 6000 miles away! I vote for the YouTube option too.
I noticed that little line at the very bottom. Would you ever be willing to share your conversion story. I'd love to read it.
Vote #723 for YouTube!!!
CGS sounds interesting, but I'm not really sure I get it 100%. I'm picturing massive amounts of specialized toy chalices and things, and I KNOW that you would NEVER condone such waste and buying things that are useless outside of one catechism lesson a year...
xoxo :)
I wish I could come! Too far away, unfortunately.
Request #304 for somehow getting the information out onto your blog! Youtube, written out, your notes . . . whatever!
A girlfriend and I just yesterday were talking about homeschooling resources within the church - I'll have to check out your links and send them her direction. Thank you!
Best,
Sarah
Wish I could be there!
I also wish you had done this last week.
And I wish you had put it on YouTube.
And I wish I could have watched it and copied it before I had to present a similar topic at my parish.
Ah, well, if wishes were horses...
