It's not as fabulous as my thoughts about it are -- do you know that kind of book? Where your imagination is more fired up than the book itself, but somehow the book is the indispensable starting point for whatever it is that it sparks within you...
It has many great stories and memories. I think that any homemaker could be inspired by these women.
Anyway, the book is called The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art: An Oral History.
I think this is the one. You can interlibrary loan it...

Baby Shower (part 2)

The quilt is done!
I finally finished on Thursday night, just in time to deliver it when I brought Kristen and Jason dinner on Friday. For some reason I feel like the colors look a little bit washed-out in these pictures. Imagine everything a notch more vibrant...

I quilted it using bright green thread, which brought a little bit more interest in the white squares to complement the pinwheels (or, as Jason referred to them, awesome "origami ninja stars").

Creative Birthday Wishes
Posted by
Deirdre
Following dorm tradition, my friends teamed up on the eve of my birthday to decorate my door as a surprise for me upon my waking.
I got in trouble though, because at 1:30 am I took a break from paper writing to go to the lounge and get my ice cream. Of course, I came upon them gathered around a table with crayons, markers, and paper... and they yelled at me for "breaking the cardinal birthday rule!" But I had honestly forgotten that such things would be going on!
I felt bad, but they ended up surprising me after all! They made a unique rendition on the traditional door decor.

(Note: That's the jacket that Rosie and Suki gave me)
Everyone made a custom bird.
And some put in some time to color the paper.
Accompanied with a greeting.
So cute!
Everyone flocked around to admire for the next few days. LaVerne, our cleaning lady, was particularly excited by them.

I never want to take them down!
