Oooo!! A blog! With cool girlie stuff in it!!

This is fun!! Do I have any pictures to post? I got to a bunch of yard sales today and yesterday, and tried to quickly integrate everything I bought into the existing stash so that no one (cough* Papa* cough) would notice...

I love your room!! It's looking SUPER organized and cute. I saw at least a dozen chairs today that could have been useful to you.

Oh well, I'll stop now since posts with no pictures are SOOO boring. Here's a random one to cheer you up. It's called (by me) Bridget in the Sunshine.

yard sale find

On my way home from dropping my car off at the shop this morning, I found these great little prints at a yard sale (Lorraine thinks they're hand-colored). They're little Italian illustrations of the senses (or at least three of them): sight, touch, and taste.

Before and After

And now, the nerdy housekeeping post.

You know how you always end up having a corner or two where you just put things that you don't have a place for, or that you're too lazy to deal with just then? And then when it gradually it gets to be too much, you attack the pile and put things away and redistribute the rest (but eventually it all returns to the same corner, because your system is intrinsically flawed)?

Over the summer, I was in and out of my apartment enough that I was able to really hone my talent for this sort of thing. As evidence, I give you Before:

First, my desk. Which, by the way, I never use as a desk. Highlights include the random papers strewn about, and of special note is the pile on top of my chair (I tell you, I'm thorough. No even vaguely-horizontal surface left uncluttered!).

Second, the Awkward Space Next to Deirdre's Dresser.

Here I'd like to point out the shopping bag of clothes to go to Goodwill, the sewing supplies with no home, and the mirror perched on top of random boxes (which do periodically need to be accessed). *note: Deirdre has moved out by this point. This is not her mess.

After an afternoon or so of concentrated effort, though, I think I may finally have won!

My desk is now a sewing corner, with an easily-accessible fabric stash underneath and the sewing machine at the ready. I've already made myself a bag!

And the Awkward Space Next to Deirdre's Dresser is no more. Instead, Sukie has a Cute Corner for her dresser.

So we still have some work to do (for instance, I recognize that my chair is falling apart, and we have officially run out of bookshelves, and have resorted to the very sophisticated Piling Method of book storage), but I'm still quite proud.

We need our own blog.

I really wanted to write a big nerdy post on the blog about housekeeping the other day, but kept thinking how Mama says that sort of thing alienates the boys. On the other hand, though, I want to share, and I do think she would appreciate my organizational success! In fact, there are many things around the house that I've taken pictures of, but haven't gotten a chance to show her yet.

And thus, the idea for a Girls' Blog was born.

I propose that we continue to keep up the family blog for those things that are of general interest, but come here for all those other things that we tend to obsess over while the boys roll their eyes.

What do you think?
